How to properly descale your kettle

Honesty is key

Be honest with yourself. When was the last time you descaled your kettle? The day before yesterday - 4 weeks ago, 4 months ago, at Easter or was it after Christmas? Gather up all your courage and take a look inside your kettle, and you'll see how much limescale is already scratching at its soul... So roll up your sleeves and let's go!

Normal limescale deposits can be removed with one tablet dissolved in half a liter of water. Stubborn limescale deposits require two or more tablets per half liter of water. Should anything still remain, simply repeat the descaling process.

Tip: To remove multiple layers of limescale from the bottom of your kettle, it is not necessary to fill the kettle completely. Just fill it with about 2 cm of water and dissolve one or two tablets in it. This highly concentrated solution dissolves the limescale in no time.

Tip: To descale the entire water level indicator, fill the kettle completely and then dissolve the appropriate number of tablets. Based on experience, a less concentrated solution is sufficient for this.

Faster than expected

You'll be surprised how quickly descaling can go. For hot water appliances, let the descaling solution soak in for a good 10 to 15 minutes. Then rinse several times with fresh water and your kettle is ready for use again.

The right rhythm

Now imagine that you really descale your affected equipment on a regular basis. What does that mean? Depending on the water hardness, every 1 to 3 months. In case of very hard water (over 26°dH), it is recommended to do it every 3 to 4 weeks. Once you start using it regularly, you will see that the individual descaling processes become easier because the limescale no longer has a chance to stick stubbornly to the surface.

Tip: Ask your water supplier about the hardness of your tap water and then enter a date for descaling in your calendar at the appropriate repetition frequency, which will help you not to forget!
